OakNodes making hosting nodes accessible to anyone

Published on: 19 February, 2019

At OAK our core technology is a universal blockchain engine that allows intelligent nodes for any protocol to run on virtually any hardware. A fully decentralized and connected world means we’ll have billions of devices connected to blockchain, from laptops and smartphones, to smart speakers and who-knows-what. Yet unlike today’s internet, devices of the decentralized world will need to participate in that network beyond dumb endpoints. That’s why we built OAK – to support the next wave of blockchain adoption.

The OAKstore is our first product built on the OAK Engine. The OAKstore is an AppStore style experience for hosting full and light nodes on your local machine. We’ve designed it to be simple to get started, so anyone can join.

A fully decentralized and connected world means we’ll have billions of devices connected to a blockchain, from laptops and smartphones, to smart speakers and who-knows-what. Yet unlike today’s internet, devices of the decentralized world will need to participate in that network beyond dumb endpoints. Today’s infrastructure, development environments, and consumer experience aren’t ready for that kind of scale, and lack the flexibility. We need new models to address the complexity of this new world. Decentralization inevitably creates fragmentation. It happened with Android, but in the case of blockchain this fragmentation is crucial. Decentralized, fragmented systems are resilient, but adoption is difficult, and each major group is impacted by fragmentation. What is the audience you are targeting

Our first product is targeted at crypto enthusiast who want to host their own nodes and earn a profit from node hosting. Our next releases will include developer-focused tools like a powerful cross-platform runtime environment, and tools for dapp operators to manage mass deployment of nodes.

The initial promise of blockchain was a decentralized, democratized network free from centralized control. And for a long time, it was just that – but as the value of blockchain has increased, the drive to centralize has also increased. We feel these two concepts, centralization and value, are inherently at odds with one-another. Decentralization, and indeed fragmentation, is something that makes crypto networks more resilient.

We built this core technology to dramatically expand the number of devices capable of connecting to and hosting nodes, because we believe in a world of universal blockchain connectivity. OAK is built to support mass decentralization, and fragmentation, while providing developers and users tools to work within that framework. Why did you choose RSK to build it?

RSK is an ideal launch partner for OAK. The team’s commitment to excellence, the maturity of the project, and the vibrant developer community make it a great fit for the OAKstore. Making it easier than ever to join RSK will attract even more users and developers, and we’re delighting to be a part of RSK’s growth.
